An instrumented tine was used to measure tillage force data in a Yolo loam field near U.C.Davis campus under four different soil conditions tilled dry, tilled wet, untilled dry, and untilled wet. As expected, these data exhibit spatial variations that look like random fluctuations. However, it is possible that an underlying order exists in such data. Alternately, the data may be purely stochastic in nature. In any case, variability in the force data may be related to soil properties and provide a technique to measure those parameters. The data were analyzed to determine if the underlying phenomenon that caused the variability is purely stochastic or originated from deterministic chaos.(Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
