Performance of Two Watershed Models for Hydrologic Simulations in an Illinois Watershed

Two watershed models, WEPP (Water Erosion Prediction Project) model and DWSM (Dynamic Watershed Simulation Model) were used in simulating soil erosion and flow rates from a relatively large agricultural watershed in Illinois. The both of the models consist of process-based hydrologic components. The target watershed, named Big Ditch Watershed in Illinois, was divided into 133 hillslopes, and 75 channel segments connecting each of the hillslopes. The DHARMA domain-specific middleware system has been developed to expand the applicability of the WEPP model to large watershed such as the Big Ditch watershed, which is impossible due to the limit of current computer technology. In this paper, we discussed the evolving software architecture of DHARMA and the data development for the entire Big Ditch watershed.
