The Natural Resources Conservation Service (formerly the Soil Conservation Service)
assisted in the building of 22 flood control structures in Vernon County, Wisconsin. The
structures were funded under Public Law 566 Watershed Protection and Flood Prevention
Act. In June 2000, after almost 40 years, heavy rains caused the PL-566 Bad Axe flood
control structure #24 to partially fail through the bedrock hillside.
