The relation between the different factors of influence on the jet spray structure and the jet effect at the impact surface were analyzed within the context of a basic research developed standard testing method. Four measuring systems were used to determine the effect-relevant parameters of the jet structure of selected nozzles. The measuring results were analyzed linked together with two evaluation programs developed in the ATB. The drops formed in the jet spray of the nozzles were submitted to an energetic view. On the basis of the results of investigations the nozzles were evaluated regarding their cleaning efficiency. The results so far show that the distribution of the density of the volume stream, the mean impulse of the drops in the jet spray as well as the total impulse of the jet give information about the impulse- and impact pressure effect of the jet at the impact surface. The parameters mentioned before are connected to each other and their respective value influences the jet efficiency of the nozzle. The formation of an effective jet structure for vegetable cleaning is decisively determined by the volume flow through the nozzle in connection with the spray pressure, the spray angle and the nozzle distance. As a result of the research work, recommendations were derived for optimum improvement of the nozzles. By using the test data of different nozzles the drop volume spectrum of a jet, which is energetically optimal and cleaningeffective, was worked out.
