Simulation of Airflow in a Flatbed Dryer by Computational Fluid Dynamics: Application for the Drying of Rice in Mekong Delta, Vietnam

In order to improve flatbed rice dryers, which have been used in Mekong delta (MD), Vietnam, A prototype model was set up and investigated. A mathematical model was developed to compute the local airflow at different positions in the flatbed dryer model and investigate the effect of dryer geometry. The model solves the Reynolds-averaged Navier- Stokes equations for the airflow with a k- model for turbulence. A good qualitative agreement was obtained between measured and simulated velocity profiles in the model.
