Human protein nanostructures primarily include protein-lipid, protein-protein, proteincarbohydrate, and protein-nucleic acid complexes. Since protein nanostructures are critical to various biological and physiopathological activities, they have received broad attentions in recent years for the development of drug targeting strategies involving targeting drug carries as well as therapeutic targets for new drug development. Our laboratory recently has been working on one specific type of protein-lipid nanostructures, i.e. lipoprotein, for delivery of bioactive molecules. This presentation will focus on the engineering of human endogenous lipoproteins, using agricultural materials, and utilization of these artificial lipoproteins for anticancer drug delivery and gene delivery.
