Practical applications of Cropping Systems Models (CSM's) largely depend on the availability of multiple types of data. However, without a network to archive and exchange data, data is often underutilized, while, at some time, modeling projects are limited by a data bottleneck. The ICASA Data Exchange (IDE) has been developed to provide a web-based agricultural data exchange and cataloguing system for CSM researchers. The system was designed to provide metadata of the dataset, which are submitted by ICASA members voluntarily. Two databases, experiment and weather, have been integrated with the system. The databases are expected to grow as researchers become aware of and familiar with the system. Developing an application to automatically extract metadata from datasets would be the next goal of the project.(Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
