Three-dimensional air velocities were measured in a full-scale ventilated room (5.5 3.7 2.4 m) at three different air change rates using a stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (SPIV) measurement system. The measurements include airflow pattern and air velocity vector maps for the entire room cross section except the boundary areas. The results show that the SPIV technique can be an effective method to quantitatively measure the indoor air velocities, especially for those regions with very low velocities. The air velocity distribution measured using SPIV can be used to analyze ventilation system strategies and performance, and to validate CFD models.
