Ozone has been shown to ameliorate the odor of swine waste during storage. Technical and economic considerations make it difficult to exploit this phenomenon at full scale. This paper describes the construction and start-up of a plant that treats about half of the waste from a 200-sow farrow-to-finish facility. The process is relatively expensive, both in constuction and in operational and maintenance costs. Even so, the costly treatment may help avoid lawsuits in some circumstances.
