The bioscrubber MagixX is an innovative approach to the reduction of emissions. The exhaust air flows horizontally through two filter banks consisting of cellulose elements. Water flows permanently from top to bottom of these elements. Whereas simple water is used at the first filter bank, acidified water is used at the second filter bank. Installation of a third filter bank filled with shredded wood is possible. Preliminary investigations revealed a reduction of the concentrations of ammonia, airborne dust (PM10), and odorants in the exhaust air of a piggery by 80, more than 80, and 70-80% respectively. However, these results must be proven in long-run measurements.
