Influence of the Wetted Perimeter Estimated by the Parable Arch Equation on Infiltration Profile in Furrow Irrigatio

This research had the purpose of analyzing the influence of the wetted perimeter estimated by the parable arch equation in the infiltration profile in furrow irrigation. The infiltration profiles were compared to those obtained by equation presented in the literature and field data. The infiltrated area was obtained multiplying the wetted perimeter by the accumulated infiltration depth expressed by Kostiakov equation, while the product of average water depth, wetted perimeter and furrow length gave the infiltrated volume. The results show to exist larger approach to field data of the infiltration profile and infiltrated volume values, when the wetted perimeter was estimated by the parable arch equation, which contributes for a better design and evaluation of the furrow irrigation systems.
