Drainage Research Needs for Water Management in Saline Environments

The factors impacting crop water use from shallow ground water were discussed and the research results summarized. Future needs for managing drainage in arid irrigated land were identified. These include new drainage design criteria, positive control on drainage systems and additional studies to maximize in-situ use of ground water by plants.
