Research was conducted to develop a device/procedure to measure mass flow into a round baler. Development of this technology is of interest to industry because it would provide the means of yield mapping of a forage field. By using this method, there is an opportunity to increase the capacity (ton/h) of the baler by increasing the average flow of material into the bale chamber. This objective is long-term as compared to the short-term objective of providing the means for yield mapping. The results demonstrated that a dynamic measure of windrow volume is possible. This measurement may be a useful surrogate for mass flow.
