Modern agriculture is heavily dependent on machines and chemicals. With increasing consolidation of farm holdings and a rise in corporate farming, weed and insect control without chemicals is not feasible. Thus, practices to reduce surface- and ground-water pollution without adversely affecting yield or the farmers profit have already been adopted and will continue to be important areas of concern.
