During the past 10 years, a number of states conducted statewide or multi-county (regional) studies to assess pesticide contamination of rural domestic wells. Many of the states used a systematic statistical approach to design these studies. However, in other cases, states have conducted monitoring studies in suspected contamination areas or compiled the available information on the occurrences of pesticides in domestic wells. Such information, although not similar to systematic surveys, is often useful. Letters were sent to pesticide control officials in all 50 states for obtaining information on the status of ground-water monitoring for pesticides in domestic wells and the state management plan (SMP) for pesticides. From the published studies and information received by request specifically for this book, the following summaries are presented. Note that the level of details varies based upon the amount of information available to the author.
