Based on the algorithms of the stereoscopic particle image velocimetry (SPIV) we have developed, two digital cameras in an angular oriented configuration were used to simultaneously record two images of the same airspace of interest in a full-scale room. The room was seeded with helium-filled soap bubbles of neutral buoyancy. The 5.5 3.7 2.4 m (W x D x H) test room, which was used to simulate and monitor indoor air flows, was constructed within an air-conditioned room ventilation simulator (RVS). A bank of projector lamps was used to offer volume illumination. Preliminary three-dimensional PIV data are presented in this paper. This SPIV system offers a promising practical method to measure 3-dimensional airflow in full-scale rooms in commercial, industrial, and agricultural buildings and other confinement airspaces such as transportation vehicles.
