This is the first in a series of reports on a study of metal-clad wood-frame diaphragm action in a 40- by 200-foot post-frame building. This study is being jointly sponsored by the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Lester Building Systems of Lester Prairie, MN. In this inaugural report, previous metal-clad wood-frame diaphragm research and current design practices are discussed, the UW & LBS Full-Scale Building Research Initiative is outlined, and structural details for the full-scale test building are presented.
