Designing Erosion-Safe Sprinkle Irrigation TechnologyPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Paper number 022283, 2002 ASAE Annual Meeting . (doi: 10.13031/2013.10843) @2002Authors: Nickolai S. Yorkhov Keywords: Sprinkle irrigation, erosion-safe application technology, pre-runoff application depth, pre-runoff, infiltration capacity, sustainable use of natural resources The generally used procedure and established practice of designing sprinkle irrigation systems does not include designing erosion-safe sprinkle application technology which encompasses both sprinkle application system and inherent to the system erosion-safe application schedules for the crops in the physical conditions of irrigated area. Application depths of an erosionsafe application schedule should not exceed the pre-runoff ones. So the very core of a new procedure is taking into account the pre-runoff application depths for the application systems designed for some known conditions of irrigated area. According to the new procedure the pre-runoff application depths for a sprinkle application system under consideration for any day of the irrigation season of the crop are computed using some experimentally established equations. The procedure takes into account costs of realizing erosion-safe sprinkle application technologies. So the procedure makes it possible to design both erosion-safe and economically optimum sprinkle irrigation systems that fully match the requirements of the conception of sustainable use of natural resources.
