Hansen Keywords: Wind Energy, Energy Assessment Wind energy can be utilized to generate electricity cost effectively if reliably and sufficiently available. The wind energy potential of a site near Springerville in east central Arizona was evaluated to better quantify the wind resource and identify potential wind generator sites. Measurements from Dec. 1999-June 2001 found average monthly wind speeds to be 8.115.0 mph, yielding categorization as a class 3 wind density site, a site meriting further feasibility analysis. Peak daily wind speeds usually were obtained from noon to five in the afternoon; peak seasonal winds were received from February through June, times which could enhance economic feasibility.
