Verification of Normalization Model of human olfactory responsePublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Paper number 024164, 2002 ASAE Annual Meeting . (doi: 10.13031/2013.10519) @2002Authors: G. Qu; R.N. Coleman; J.J.R. Feddes; Q. Zhang; L.D.Jacobson Keywords: Odor, environment, measurement, olfactometry, normalization Odor measurements were compared among four olfactometry laboratories across North America. Odorous air samples collected from livestock facilities were delivered to the four laboratories and the odor concentration of each sample was measured by the four olfactometers at the same time. A certified commercial n-butanol, air mixture of 40ppm, was used as a reference odor. Relatively large variations were observed between laboratories. By applying a normalization model to the data from four laboratories, the standard error was decreased by 36%, measurement variation decreased by 38%, and the extreme value of the Max/Min parameter decreased by 55%. The experimental results suggested that by applying the normalization model, the consistence of olfactometer measurement could be addressed. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
