GUIDELINES FOR IMPROVED IRRIGATION PRACTICES FOR FURROW IRRIGATED VEGETABLE PRODUCTIONPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Paper number 022245, 2002 ASAE Annual Meeting . (doi: 10.13031/2013.10435) @2002Authors: D. Zerihun and C.A. Sanchez Keywords: Furrow irrigation, Irrigation performance, Irrigation management, management tools and guidelines Dyked-end level furrows are widely used to irrigate vegetables in the moderately coarse to heavy textured soils of the Southwestern United States. Irrigation application efficiency for furrow irrigated vegetable production systems is often low. This paper describes the procedure used to develop a management package (management tools and guidelines) for Furrow-irrigated vegetable production systems in the Yuma Mesa and Valley Irrigation Districts. The procedure includes field experimental, modeling (model calibration, model validation, and the development of management tools via simulation experiments), and outreach/educational components.
