A Web-Based DSS for Agricultural Drought Management in Republic Of KoreaPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Paper number 022209, 2002 ASAE Annual Meeting . (doi: 10.13031/2013.10427) @2002Authors: Min W. Jang, Ha W. Chung Keywords: agricultural drought, water balance, paddy, DSS The objective of this study is to develop a Decision Support System (DSS) for establishing agricultural drought mitigations in Republic Of Korea(ROK). The system consists of three major functional modules: data, models, and web-based user-interface subsystems. The data module includes meteorological data, water use facilities and equipments data, drought mitigations and damages, and so on. Several simulation models were developed to evaluate regional agricultural drought severity and the drought mitigations. The developed models simulate regional water balance between available water quantity and water requirement in paddy blocks and then classify the results by 5 classes: normal, mild, moderate, severe, and extreme state. To assist local governments efficiently to establish drought plan and have related data and information in common, web-based user interfaces using internet network were developed. The interfaces make database access and model operations possible regardless of time and location. The developed system was tested at some districts and showed good applicability to agricultural drought evaluation and data management. So, its expected to be useful at all over the nation of ROK and increase the efficiency of drought mitigation activities. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
