This paper presents the construction details and measurement data associated with a nonevaporating, in-field precipitation gage (the Irrigage). Field data include sprinkler uniformity measurements with Irrigages and other larger catch-can devices. Irrigages were also compared to other precipitation collection devices in an in-field device evaporation study during the 2001 summer. During the study period, air temperatures often exceeded 38 C and daily grass-reference evapotranspiration rates exceed 8 mm/day. Evaporation losses from Irrigages were negligible over a week-long measurement period, while substantial evaporation losses were associated with standard rain gages and other catch can devices.
