The design and construction of a prototype sisal decorticator for small-scale farmers is described. The prototype provides for improved sisal processing and can be manufactured locally. Production capacity of the prototype 12 kg of dry sisal fiber per hour with a design efficiency of 42.9% and yield of 3.2%. Test results show that after decortications, sisal fibers have to be washed, dried and brushed in order to detach some pulp that may have remained on the fibers.
