Small Towable Center Pivots for Irregularly Shaped Fields: An Engineering-Economic Analysis

SMALL towable center pivot irrigation systems were evaluated to determine the minimum required physical and economic resources for their use on irregularly shaped fields. Evaluated were 2-, 3-, and 4-tower systems for use on one to five tow positions. Two placement configurations were considered. Procedures included both field data collection and analytical techniques. Economic analysis indicates a decreasing cost per hectare with increasing irrigated area. For the economic data used, the inverse-area relationship was independent of system size and configuration.
