Small Towable Center Pivots for Irregularly Shaped Fields: An Engineering-Economic AnalysisPublished by the American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers, St. Joseph, Michigan www.asabe.org Citation: Applied Engineering in Agriculture. 4(3): 218-225. (doi: 10.13031/2013.26611) @1988Authors: Eugene W. Rochester, L. Upton Hatch, Jeffrey M. Gillespie Keywords: Economic analysis, Irrigation system design, Sprinkler irrigation SMALL towable center pivot irrigation systems were evaluated to determine the minimum required physical and economic resources for their use on irregularly shaped fields. Evaluated were 2-, 3-, and 4-tower systems for use on one to five tow positions. Two placement configurations were considered. Procedures included both field data collection and analytical techniques. Economic analysis indicates a decreasing cost per hectare with increasing irrigated area. For the economic data used, the inverse-area relationship was independent of system size and configuration. (Download PDF) (Export to EndNotes)
