Vegetation Division is a basic theory and a guideline for artificial vegetation restoration. Based on the MODIS image data in Northern Shaanxi, NDVI and ALBEDO indices were extracted and classified using decision tree. The results show that two boundaries can be drawn according to the classification and spatial analysis: (1) Wubao- Suide- Qingjian- west Yancuan-- northwest Yanchang –Yan’an-- north Zhidan; and (2) Dingbian-Jingbian-Hengshang-Yulin-Shengmu. The forest region is located to the south of the first boundary, while the steppe region is located to the north of second boundary, and the region between the two boundaries was the ecotone region of forest and steppe. These results are supported by the earlier research which employed traditional method is of vegetation investigation. For a large-scale area, the vegetation division using MODIS image data and geography information system can be faster and more accurate.
