The goal of deep bed swine production is to create a system where the individual animal can select and regulate its own microenvironment through the bedding material. Successful deep bed swine finishing building designs must integrate the needs of the animal with concerns for bedding management and usage. To optimize animal performance and welfare while minimizing bedding usage and management, all of the building systems must be designed and integrated to meet the specialized requirements of the deep bed production system. These include the ventilation, heating, cooling, and feeding/watering systems. (Download PDF)    (Export to EndNotes)
