The SKF Electro-Hydraulic Steering system is developed using the SKF approach for mechatronic design. This electro hydraulic steering solution will provide substantially increased functionality, added value and features when compared to today's fully hydraulic steering.

In Electro-Hydraulic steering systems electrical wires replace the hydraulic link between steering wheel and steered wheels. The combination of hydraulic and electronic technology leads to dramatic improvements in steering performance, maximizing the effectiveness of the system and providing the following key advantages:

  • Programmable steering functions
  • Improved ergonomics
  • Flexibility in cabin design
  • Reduction of noise in cabin
  • Simplified assembly
  • Fulfills safety requirements
The SKF E-H steering system consists of three components:
    1. Steering Device
    2. King Pin Sensor
    3. Electro-Hydraulic Proportional Valve
The work presented in this paper describes the SKF approach for a mechatronic steering solution.
