ABSTRACT METHODS of removing the tops from onions in the field were studied. The rotary blade topper is the most effective topper of three types evaluated. The topping was studied with pre-harvest procedures that included three methods of under-cutting and different times of under-cutting. The use of the topper required a change in harvesting sequence which has no adverse effect on the onion.
